Jeremy Harrison to complete the British 3 peaks challenge "On 31st July, together with 2 fellow masochists, I completed the British 3 peaks challenge by climbing the three highest peaks in Britain in just under 24 hours.
The mountains were Ben Nevis (4,406ft), Scafell Pike (3,206ft) and Snowdon (3,560ft) – in all the challenge involved some 26 miles of ascent and descent, with total travel approaching 475 miles.
It was actually great fun with the highlight being finishing, and the lowpoint being lost on Scafell Pike at 3.30am in the pitch black whilst trying to navigate by torchlight in the rain ! Unfortunately every peak was in cloud so we can only imagine the beauty of sunset from the top of Ben Nevis and sunrise on Scafell Pike !
Scafell Pike was by far the toughest which was not helped by the time of day or conditions, Ben Nevis looks scary but is really a pussy cat and Snowdon is the most popular mountain, possibly because of the train running to the summit - not an option for us walkers on this challenge !
